Oil Drilling Solid Control Equipment What are the working principle and application scope of a vibrating screen?

The shale shaker is a critical piece of equipment in the solids-control system and serves as the primary treatment unit within that system. So, what are the operating principles and application ranges of shale shakers in oil-drilling solids-control equipment?

 Oil Drilling Solid Control Equipment

The excitation force generated by the motor drives the screen bed to perform linear, circular, elliptical, or translational elliptical motion. The screen mesh serves to filter and classify materials, separating large particles such as drill cuttings from the slurry; the treated fine-particle clean mud then falls into the vibrating screen hopper, awaiting further processing in the next stage. The separated large solid particles are conveyed off the screen bed under the action of the excitation force and discharged from the tank.

  Scope of Application:

It also provides primary, secondary, or tertiary solids-control treatment for drilling mud and other liquids requiring processing in onshore and offshore oil-and-gas drilling, coal-bed methane extraction, trenchless directional crossing, piling works, and wastewater and slurry treatment projects. In short, it is suitable for the preliminary treatment of drilling mud and solid–liquid mixtures in a wide range of environments.

Oil Drilling Solid Control Equipment What are the operating procedures for a vibrating screen?

  1. Pre-Drive Preparations

Inspect the inlet and outlet chutes, as well as any chutes or pipelines with insufficient dimensions, to ensure they are unobstructed. Verify that all maintenance work has been completed and that maintenance personnel have cleared the equipment. Check that the equipment is powered on; then, in accordance with dispatch instructions, select either local or centralized control mode.

  2. Operations During Running

While operating the equipment on site, upon receiving the start command from the dispatcher, press the start button to initiate operation. During operation, the dispatcher will assume centralized control. While the screening machine is running, continuously monitor its performance and promptly report any issues to the dispatcher. Inspect the material passing through the screen for oversized particles or damaged screen panels. Ensure uniform feed to the screening machine during operation, and check for abnormal noise and proper operating temperature. Observe whether water is flowing across the surface of the dewatering screen; if any problems are detected, report and address them immediately. Pay close attention to the dewatering and water-spraying conditions of the dewatering screen, and report any abnormalities to the dispatcher without delay.

  3. Parking Operation

During on-site operation, upon receipt of a stop signal and when the equipment is empty of materials, press the stop button to halt the machine. During centralized operation, the stop command is centrally controlled by the dispatcher. Report any operational issues encountered to the dispatcher. Complete job logs as required and ensure proper shift handover procedures are followed.

What safety procedures are in place for shale shakers in oil drilling solids-control equipment?

It is strictly prohibited to approach, touch, clean, or perform maintenance on a screening machine while it is in operation. When cleaning the screen surface, handling emergencies, or carrying out repairs, the power-off, tag-out, and lockout procedures must be rigorously followed, and no work is permitted until the screening machine has come to a complete stop.

  1. Prior to commencing work, inspect fasteners, connectors, the vibration wheel, tension springs, and other components to ensure they are in proper working condition. Verify that the vibrating screen is securely mounted and free from cracks or damage, and confirm that the electrical protective grounding wire is in good condition. The powder dust-collection system and ventilation system shall be put into trial operation only after passing a static inspection.

  2. During operation, if it is necessary to screen out foreign objects, first disconnect the power supply and then use tools to remove them. If the procedure requires access to the internal screen, a supervisor must be present.

  3. The ventilation and dust-removal system shall remain in good working condition during powder vibration, particle classification, and slag discharge.

  4. Adhere to safety operating procedures.
